Going Virtual - Starting on a new world.

So finally the final pieces for the server arrived and I got started on this new world, playing with my new toy, because lets face it, it is what it is, a very expensive toy for me, but it is not that bad really, something someone on the ESXi forums got me thinking about, so lets evaluate: Hardware Price (Final) server configuration: ASUS Z8PE-D12X Motherboard 2 x Intel Xeon L5630, 12MB Cache, 40W TDP,  2.13 GHz Quad Core 2 x Noctua NH-U9DK 1366 6 x...

Going Virtual - (Update) Raid Controller Hunt

So ASUS could not supply the PIKE card, which is a real shame since it would save up allot of space, but now I have to run with a more regular solution, ordering a LSI MegaRAID SAS 9260-8i kit (Raid card with connectors for 8 SATA drives), rather expensive but according to people on the the VMware forums that is the “safe” bet rather than a much less expensive Adaptec RAID 2805 card. So the new specs are: ASUS Z8PE-D12X Motherboard 2 x Intel Xeon L5630, 12MB Cache, 40W...

Media server, Build server and Download center

The reason I bought this is basically that I have been using my workstation as a media server and since we are talking a Core 2 Duo 6600, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 3x160GB + 1x320GB Disks, GeForce 9600GT and some more, one can imagine that it consumes a bit of power. Of course I could turn it of when I don't use it, at least that was what I told my self...
